Projects

CabTec International llc created the DDS and licensed it to CPL in 2005. After initial projects, CabTec International llc became the support for CPL and continually advances the DDS system.

Project Management (PM) has evolved into a true 'profession' with the help of worldwide organizations such as the Project Management Institute. Among other benefits these organizations bring are a codified approach of managing projects to minimize oversights. Their promulgated methodology requires monitoring project performance with metrics, requires the identification and analysis of risk exposure, and requires effective cost control. The PMI offers certification called 'Project Management Professional' (PMP) obtained through an experience requirement and examination. The PMP ensures that holders of the certificate have the basic knowledge in all disciplines of project management.

Key Benefits of CabTec International llc

Ability to offer E and Ep type of contracts, and experience with projects worldwide with PMP-certified personnel.

Types of Project Contracts

Technology Transfer Only ('E')

This type of project is designed for customers that want to purchase their own equipment or portions of the equipment and contract with the erection company directly. We will provide the process design, basic engineering, detailed process control system design, instrumentation specifications, basic equipment specifications, commissioning management or assistance, operator training assistance, startup management or assistance and process optimization following the startup period. This type of contract allows the customer the maximum flexibility and project control.

Technology Transfer with Equipment Supply ('Ep')

This project type includes all of the supplied services as an 'E' type contract, but with the inclusion of equipment supply. The portion of the equipment must be purchased in the US if the US Ex-IM bank guarantees or supplies financing for a project.

Project Activities

We can offer full project management for DDS and DSS installations and also project management support activities for other production areas. Support activities offered include certain aspects of scope management, time management, cost management, quality management, risk management and procurement management as defined in the 'Project Management Body of Knowledge, 2000 ed.' from the Project Management Institute.

Technical Assistance and Support

We provide basic and detailed engineering in specific areas of the fiberline. Detailed engineering is available for instrumentation, controls, and process control disciplines. Basic engineering or comment is available for the other disciplines.

Control Systems Detailed Design. Detailed design, supervision, installation and modification of the control system is available for all commercially offered and installed displacement digester technology (eg DDS, RDH™, SuperBatch™, Enerbatch™, CBC™) and non-wood digesters. Complete specifications for the functionality of the control system are available for use as a Functional Requirement Specification document which is used for programming DCS components as well as a basis for operator training.

Basic Process Engineering. Basic engineering services are offered for all DDS installations. This includes layout, process diagrams, sizing of equipment, instrument loop sheets, review of piping isometrics and other general scope documents.

Optimization Services. Troubleshooting and process de-bottlenecking services for all displacement digester technology systems.

Locating and Refurbishing Used Equipment

The shift in manufacturing from North America to Asia Pacific creates the potential for purchasing and refurbishing equipment in North America for subsequent installation in Asia Pacific. The US government has several programs to assist in financing for this type of activity.

Key Benefits for Refurbishment

  • Proven operation of the equipment
  • Experience of the workshops
  • Cost Savings compared to new equipment

We have arranged partner companies with experience in relocating process equipment. The relocation of process equipment requires knowledgeable dismantling of the equipment in order to insure minimum effort during the reinstallation process. The equipment must be marked, inspected for repair or refurbishment and documented for import / export. The equipment that requires refurbishment will be sent to certified shops before the equipment is shipped to the new site. Some of the activities we assist with are:

  • Site Inspection — We are able to analyze and identify the scope of work required for the relocation effort in order to put a team together for optimum results.
  • On Site — The customer may wish to participate in the dismantling activities. This allows for a more informed re-installation process.
  • Inspection of Equipment — The equipment must be inspected prior to crating. The items that need refurbishment are marked as such.
  • Crating — The equipment must be prepared for shipping before putting them into the proper shipping containers. Large pieces of equipment must be cradled and chocked properly.
  • Freight Forwarding — The equipment must be transported to the port by a freight forwarder. The US government has requirements on ocean vessels if the project is financed through the US Ex-Im bank programs.
